Harishwar Dayal is currently a Professor at the Institute for Human Development (IHD) and the Director of its Eastern Regional Centre, Ranchi. He has teaching and research experience of more than 25 years. He, earlier, was in the department of Economics at St. Xavier’s college, teaching Economics to the undergraduate and post-graduate students. He, at present, is on lien from the college.

Though, his core area of research is Labour Economics and Development Economics including Human Development; but has interest in election studies as well. He has been involved in surveys conducted by the CSDS for more than a decade and as a coordinator for the state of Jharkhand, he conducted the National Election Studies (NESs) of the years 1998, 1999, 2004, and 2009, various rounds of bi-annual surveys, Survey for the “State of Democracy in South Asia” (SDSA), for the “State of the Nation Survey” (SONS) and various other studies in the state of Jharkhand.

  • “Jharkhand State Prospective Paper on Micro-Finance through Self Help Group Movement” the report was submitted to CARE, Jharkhand in the year 2001.
  • “Base line survey of the six Minority Concentrated Districts of Jharkhand”, the reports were submitted to ICSSR in the year 2008.
  • “Baseline Assessment study of learner’s Achievements and Its Determinants” The Report was submitted to Sir Ratan Tata Trust in July 2009.
  • “State Programme Strategy for the states of Bihar and Jharkhand” the report was submitted to CARE, India in the year 2009.
  • “Mid Term Evaluation of the 11th five year plan for the state of Jharkhand” The report was submitted to the Planning Commission in the year 2010.
  • “Human Development Report of Pakur District”. The report was submitted to the Department of Planning, Government of Jharkhand. Final version submitted in December, 2012.
