EXPLAINING PUNJAB
How far can Congress gain from its selection of Charanjit Singh Channi as Punjab’s first Dalit CM? Survey data show it was already the popular choice among both Sikh and Hindu Dalits, but it needs to hold on, argues Sanjay Kumar.
In another opinion piece on Punjab, Sanjay kumar makes sense of BSP's dismal performance in the State despite it having a high Dalit population. He writes, "Mayawati’s party seems unlikely to be able to churn votes for the Akali Dal the way the BJP used to. The BSP’s vote share has hardly been of influence in past elections. Even the Dalit vote, which the Akali Dal hopes to attract, seems to favour the ruling Congress more."
Lokniti State Coordinator for Punjab, Ashutosh Kumar writes, ''the rebellious stance of Amarinder Singh and leaders waiting in the wings to fight another day will put great pressure on the high command as the assembly polls draw closer."
Ashutosh Kumar opines in another article, that even with ‘operation Captain’ over, the party has hurdles to cross if it is to emerge successful in the Assembly elections.
Laid back leadership style, inaccessibility, and failure to tackle the sacrilege issue and the drugs problem. Ashutosh Kumar looks at the many factors that led to Captain Amrinder Singh's downfall in Punjab.
