TELLING NUMBERS: From Lokniti Archives

with The Indian Express

Lokniti-CSDS has collaborated with The Indian Express to share some key insights from its survey data archives on a relevant topic, being published as a fortnightly column titled  'Telling Numbers: From Lokniti Archives'.

In the latest article of the series, 'Household-level asset ownership: just 3% in India, Delhi on top', Manjesh Rana looks at who can afford the five assets of a car, an air-conditioner at home, a desktop or laptop computer, a refrigerator, and a television set. An analysis of asset ownership data at the household level collected by Lokniti-CSDS during its National Election Study in 2019 indicates that no more than 3% of Indian households — that is, 1 in every 33 — own all of these five assets at the same time.

The fieldwork for the study has been completed, strictly following the Covid-19 protocol. The report will be released in December, 2021.
Second,  Lokniti has also partnered with  Konrad Adenauer Stiftung for a national study that will look into citizens' media consumption and practices.  After consultation with media studies experts, the questionnaire for the study was pre-tested in the field, and is currently being finalised.
