Prof. Noor Ahmad Baba, after graduating from Kashmir University, joined Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1976 for higher education. In JNU he completed his masters in Political Studies in 1978 and secured his M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from the School of International Studies in 1981 and 1988 respectively. In addition, he has also successfully completed specialized programmes for academic and research training from the department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University, Sweden and Donahue Institute of American Politics and Political Thought, University of Massachusetts, United States of America. Since March 1982 he has been working in the University of Kashmir, teaching Political Science at Masters level and guiding research scholars for M. Phil. and Ph.D. He has held a number of senior positions within the university. From 2008 to 2011 he was dean faculty of social sciences and has headed the department of political science for a record period of 15 years. In addition he also acted as Chairman, Sheikhul Alam Chair during 2010-11.

Prof. Baba has written extensively on a range of issues dealing with the South and West Asia, including Kashmir and the Indian Politics. His writings that include books and a large number of research Articles published in accredited Journals and edited volumes both nationally and internationally, have won him world level recognition. Some of his writings are prescribed as essential reading on the West Asian and Muslim Affairs in some of the prestigious universities of the world. He began with an interest in West Asian and Muslim World affairs. His present focus of research is Kashmir and South Asian Affairs with a peace research perspective. However, he continues his interest in Comparative Politics and Muslim World Affairs both for teaching and research

Dr. Baba has extensively traveled in Asia, Europe and the USA in connection with a number of academic assignments. He has participated in a host of seminars and conferences at national and international level. He has also been associated, as member, advisor and expert, with various academic and research institutes, organizations and universities. Select Publications:
