Baseline Study of Attitude, Behaviour, Belief, Practice and Awareness of Delhi Voters
In democracy elections are of special importance. Elections provide crucial opportunity to access the actual working of democracy. The electorates elect their representatives to the legislative assemblies which allow them to choose a government of their choice.
Like in other democracies, India has an autonomous Election Commission to conduct fair and free elections. Over the years ECI has taken several innovative initiatives to promote greater participations of voters and to ensure free and fair periodic elections.
Election Commission of Delhi had collaborated with Lokniti - Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) to conduct a study on the Voter Awareness. This study is titled Baseline Survey of Knowledge, Attitudes, Behaviour, Belief and Practice (KABBP) of Electors in NCT of Delhi. The objective of this study was to probe the following:
- Assess knowledge, attitude, behavior and practices of electors.
- Find out the level of involvement and satisfaction of voters with the registration process.
- Find out why those who are not registered as voters do not come forward for enrollment.
- Indentify the demographics of elector segments with lower enrollment and participation.
- Find out the reasons for low enrollment.
- How far the EC campaigns meet its objectives?
- If and how far are the voters benefiting from such campaigns?
- What do voters think about the entire electoral process?
- How do the voters look at the Election Commission in terms of its efforts to conduct free and fair election?
