State of Democracy in South Asia (Round -II)
The Second round of State of Democracy in South Asia (SDSA) is a study comprising of five countries of South Asia which includes Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The first round of SDSA was a benchmark study which has completed a first ever cross-country empirical study within the South Asia Region aimed at assessing democracy and its functioning, regime preference and governance issues and so on was conducted and completed by Lokniti. After the first SDSA, a lot of political events have taken place or unfolded in each of the South Asian countries to affect the course of democracy itself as well as the lives of the citizens.
The SDSA II will not only help map contours of change that have taken place at macro-structural level to impact the socio-economic and political conditions and circumstances of the citizen at micro level in the six countries of South Asia but also offer an opportunity to understand complex relationships between them. Lokniti conducted the India component of the study with a sample size of 5403 spread across India, except some North Eastern states (due to logistical reasons). The fieldwork has been completed and the report writing is under process at Lokniti.
The first round of SDSA was also carried out by Lokniti in 2005 and its report was released in 2007.
