Shakeb Ayaz is a New Delhi based journalist with varied interest from national, international and business issues. He has simultaneously engaged himself in academics and social science research. He started as a freelancer in 2003 and is a full time journalist since 2006. An alumnus of AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, Shakeb has worked in India’s national newswire services – United News of India (UNI), Press Trust of India (PTI) and Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) and held senior positions. He has briefly worked at CSDS in 2006 – 07.
Since 2005 he has been working on Muslim mobilization that has taken place in Jamia Nagar locality of New Delhi as case studies. Based on which he is working on his book “Batla House Chowk”. The work reflects on the discourse in the Muslim dominated area and the issues through which the political class engages with the minority community.
Besides this he is also involved himself in another research on Secularism which studies the level of absorption of the secular philosophy among Hindus and Muslims post-partition and post-independence and its impact on theory and practice of secularism in India.
